Recovery Through Faith

There Is No Wishing Our Way to Being Made Right With God

There are things in my life that I wish I hadn’t done or said, but I can’t go back and undo the past. I wish that the only words that come from my lips would be pure, holy, and encouraging. But there are days when they’re not. I wish that every thought and every choice I make would be surrendered to God’s will. But there are often times when what I want is so much more important than what God wants that I never give it a second thought. I wish that I were always in the mood to pray, to read my Bible, to sing songs and praise God with all of my heart. But there are days when praying, reading, singing, and praising are the last thing my heart desires.

Unfortunately those are facts about me, not opinions. Even on my best days I fail miserably at some (or all!) of those things. And it makes me feel so unworthy.

Because truthfully, I am unworthy.

But then I read Galatians 5:4-5:

You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.

On my own strength and ability, I am in terribly deep trouble. But thankfully God already knows this. He knows that it’s impossible for me to be made right with Him apart from Christ. And so He gave up Jesus Christ, His one and only Son, to accomplish for me that which is impossible for me to accomplish.

There is hope. No wishing, but real and true hope. Let us think about this hope today and rejoice in what Christ has already done for us.
