Weekend Thought: Jesus Calls Us His Friends

You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. – Jn 15:14-15

These are such sweet words from our Savior’s lips, aren’t they?!

No ordinary master would share his heart with a servant. He wouldn’t dare disclose some of his most tender thoughts to him. But guess what – Jesus tells us here in John 15 that He considers His disciples more than just servants. He calls them His friends! And that also includes you and me! Think about that for a moment – the One who suffered and died for us calls us His friends!

Another thought comes to mind. Many of us have experienced letdowns and disappointment with a few of our personal friends. But we will never experience that with Jesus. We don’t have to worry about His love and care for us ever going away. Being considered a friend of Jesus reveals just how close our relationship with Him can be. And this should give us so much confidence, loved ones!

True friendship. A friendship that involves sharing and being honest and open with one another. Jesus shares His words and God’s truth with us so we can know and understand God’s heart and His will. And as we grow closer to Jesus, even our prayers begin to line up with what God wants.

And then comes the awesome invitation:

To become part of what God is doing in the world.

As you enjoy your weekend, take a moment here and there to think about these things.

Yours in Christ,
Scott

  1. That’s a good one. We all can use thatencouraging message, especially on a wet, Fall, nor-easter weekend it’s interesting how such a simple thing like dreary weather can effect our emotions. Thanks for the uplift! Marc
