A Holy Habit

“We cannot escape the dangers of life except with the real and continual help of God. Let us ask Him for it constantly. How can we pray to Him without being with Him? How can we be with Him unless we think of Him often? And how can we think of Him often unless we make this a holy habit?” – Brother Lawrence

Life can be overwhelming sometimes. There’s always something going on – stress, worry, hard decisions, unexpected problems. Brother Lawrence reminds us of something really important: we can’t handle it all on our own. We need God’s help, not just now and then, but all the time.

But how do we keep that connection with God going all day long? Brother Lawrence gives a simple answer: make it a habit. Think of Him often. Talk to Him throughout the day. He’s not looking for fancy prayers or long speeches, God just wants you to be honest and real.

I’ve found that when I include God in the little things – like asking Him for patience when I’m stuck in traffic, or thanking Him for a good moment – it has the ability to change the whole tone of my day. I remember that I’m not alone, that He’s right there with me.

And the more I do that, the more natural it feels to pray. Not just during quiet time or in church, but throughout the day in everyday life. And those small moments add up! They help build a life that’s rooted in God.

Today’s Prayer: God I need You more than I admit sometimes. Help me to remember to turn to You – not just when things go wrong, but all throughout the day. Teach me to build this habit of being with You. I want to walk through life with You at the center. Amen.
