The very first step in Alcoholics Anonymous is the only step I can work perfectly, without blemish. Each morning that I wake up and go through my daily reading, prayer and meditation, I’m making the greatest investment possible toward my sobriety. This time affords me the ability to get honest with myself and God, and to reflect on all that He has done and continues doing in my life.
Who wishes to be rigorously honest and tolerant? Who wants to confess his faults and make restitution for harm done? Who cares anything about God, let alone meditation and prayer? Who wants to sacrifice time and energy in trying to help a struggling fellow alcoholic?
Those who are genuinely grateful to God for their life of sobriety, that’s who!
