“When the ship is in danger of sinking, the crew think nothing of casting overboard the precious cargo. When a limb is mortified, a man will submit to any severe operation, even amputation, to save his life. Surely a Christian should be willing to give up anything which stands between him and heaven.” ~ John Charles Ryle (on Luke 14:28)
Dear Christian, what is it that you’re holding onto that would keep you from Christ? Is it comfort? Reputation? Some secret sin that your heart refuses to part with? Do you speak of heaven, yet cling to earth? Do you desire life, yet struggle to part with things which bring death?
If a sailor will cast his gold into the sea to save his life, will you not cast away your sin to save your soul? If a man will lose a limb to preserve his body, will you not lose your idols to preserve your eternity?
Beloved, let us not deceives ourselves… Christ will have all, or He will have none. A divided heart is no heart for Him. Count the cost, yes – but then remember: whatever you lose for Christ, you lose nothing compared to what you gain in Him.
Come, then. Lay it down. Every weight, every sin. And follow Him fully – before the opportunity passes and the cost becomes your very soul!
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. – Matthew 7:13-14
