More than Just a Snow Day

I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the LORD.”
– Psalm 122:1

The winter weather the past couple of weekends has done more than canceled local church services; it’s stirred up memories I didn’t expect. Consecutive Sundays without gathering have quietly taken me back to the days of the pandemic, when separation became normal and “watching church” replaced going to church. I’m grateful for video sermons, I really am. I enjoy them, and they certainly help fill the gap when being there in person isn’t possible. But they also remind me of what’s missing.

Because it’s not the same. I miss my church family. I miss the sound of voices rising together in hymns, in the shared offering of praise, and the familiar faces in the choir – my brothers and sisters standing shoulder to shoulder and singing with a purpose. I miss the small conversations before the service starts and the unhurried hellos afterward. Those moments matter more than we sometimes realize. I need that connection. We all do.

Psalm 122:1 says, “I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’” That verse feels especially personal right now. These past couple of weeks have reminded me what a privilege it is to gather, to be surrounded by fellow believers, worshipping the Lord together in the same space. And I’m looking forward to reconnecting with my church family soon, and I’ll be carrying a deeper gratitude with me when we finally walk back through those doors!
