Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. – Colossians 3:1-2
When Paul writes these words, he’s reminding us of a profound reality: in Christ, you have already been raised. Your spiritual resurrection isn’t a future hope – it’s a present foundation for how you live and think today.
But let’s be honest: living from that reality can feel like a battle. Some days there are so many things coming at us—responsibilities, stresses, unexpected problems—that our attention gets scattered. Before we realize it, the noise of the world starts competing with the voice of heaven. Our thoughts drift downward, pulled toward the urgent instead of the eternal. And we quietly wonder, How do I handle what’s right in front of me without losing sight of what’s above me?
Paul doesn’t tell us to ignore earthly things; he calls us to anchor our hearts and minds somewhere higher. To “set your heart” is to align your deepest desires with Christ. To “set your mind” is to let His truth shape your daily thoughts, even in the middle of chaos. When our inner gaze is lifted, our perspective changes. Stress may stay, but it no longer rules us; success may come, but it no longer defines us; failure may happen, but it no longer owns us.
Today, take a moment to notice where your thoughts tend to settle. Are they being pulled down by the temporary? Or are they being lifted by the eternal? Christ is seated above—unshaken, victorious, present—and He invites you to live with your heart and mind rooted in His peace.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You know the things that demand my attention every day. Help me not to be swept away by what’s urgent but to stay anchored in what’s eternal. Teach my heart to desire what You desire and my mind to rest on what is true and lasting. Lift my gaze above the noise and help me walk today with a heaven-shaped perspective. Amen.
