God’s Kindness Opens the Door

Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? – Rom. 2:4

Have you ever considered how God’s patience and kindness in your life are gently calling you to turn away from sin and draw closer to Him? Reflect on a time when you were caught in a struggle that seemed to pull you further from God’s path – perhaps a habit, a mindset, or a choice that left you feeling trapped.

For me, it was my personal journey with alcoholism. For many years I would lean on alcohol to cope with stress and pain, ignoring the quiet conviction in my heart. But still, God didn’t turn His back on me. Quite the opposite, actually! He showed His kindness through occasional moments of clarity – through the love of family and friends who prayed for me, a sermon I listened to that hit home, and even the simple gift of waking up to a new day despite all my failures. Each of those moments was God’s patience at work… not condoning my choices, but graciously inviting me to repent, to turn away from the bottle, and to find true freedom in His love.

I’m reminded of this when I read 2 Peter 3:9: “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

God is so incredibly patient with me!

So my question for you: How is God’s kindness reaching out to you today, nudging you to let go of something that’s holding you back and to embrace the life He has for you?

God’s kindness, forbearance, and patience are not signs of indifference toward sin, but an invitation to turn from it. His mercy is not a license to continue in rebellion but a loving call to repentance – a change of heart and mind that aligns us with His good and purposeful will.

God’s kindness is not a free pass to sin; it’s a doorway to transformation. Let His patience lead you to repentance, and trust that His love will guide you into a life of purpose and peace.
