“Men, I can see that our voyage is going to be disastrous and bring great loss to ship and cargo, and to our own lives also.” – Acts 27:10
In Acts 27, Paul, a prisoner on his way to Rome, is aboard a ship facing a perilous journey. As an experienced traveler, he senses an impending storm and warns the crew, but his advice is ignored. Despite this, Paul’s faith in God remains unshaken, and he emerges as a beacon of wisdom, leadership, and encouragement during the violent tempest that follows. His confidence in God’s promise – that all would survive – sustains the crew through the crisis.

Just like it was with Paul, there will be storms in our lives too… personal trials, relational conflicts, or unexpected challenges that seem to have the power to do us in.
But Paul’s example shows the enormous value of having a strong Christian brother or sister by our side when the winds howl and the waves crash. Paul’s wisdom was rooted in his sensitivity to God’s Spirit and his practical experience, allowing him to discern danger before it fully arrived. His leadership was evident as he calmly guided others, even when his initial warning was dismissed. His encouragement kept hope alive, as he shared God’s assurance that all would be spared (Acts 27:23-25). Above all, Paul’s unwavering confidence in God’s faithfulness anchored everyone around him, turning despair into determination.
People like Paul are more valuable than treasure. They speak truth with love, lead with humility, encourage with hope, and stand firm in their faith no matter the storm’s fury. God places such individuals in our lives when we seek Him earnestly. By praying for godly companions and staying alert to their presence, we find ourselves surrounded by those who strengthen our faith and help us navigate life’s tempests.
Are you facing a storm today? Ask God to bring a faithful Christian alongside you – someone who reflects Paul’s wisdom and trust in God. Look for those who point you to Christ and stand firm in their faith. And consider: how you can be that person for someone else? Trust God to guide you through whatever storms come upon you, and cherish the godly companions He provides.
