So Much Is Riding on It!

In 1985, Michelin Tires launched an advertising campaign that left a lasting impression. Instead of celebrity endorsements or flashy gimmicks, their commercials featured something far more compelling: babies. The camera would pan to parents carefully buckling in their little ones into car seats, and then came the iconic tagline: “Because so much is riding on your tires.”

Their messaging was clear – your tires aren’t just rubber and tread; they’re what stand between you and disaster. If they fail, the consequences are serious.

Now, think about the Gospel in the same way. If Christianity is true, then everything – our eternity, our purpose, our hope – hinges on it. It’s not just a nice idea or a helpful philosophy. It’s the most important truth in the universe! If Jesus really is who He says He is, then nothing in life matters more than giving Him your heart and following Him.

The problem is, many people treat faith like an optional add-on, something that enhances life rather than defining and assuring it. But Jesus doesn’t give us that choice. He said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). That’s not a suggestion, it’s a life-or-death reality!

Imagine a parent shrugging off the importance of good tires. “They probably matter, but I’ll get around to checking them later.” That kind of thinking is reckless. But isn’t that exactly how some approach Jesus? “Sure, faith is nice, but I’ll think about it at some point later on. Currently I’m too busy living life to think about it right now.”

C. S. Lewis reminds us, Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, is of infinite importance. The only thing Christianity cannot be is moderately important.” So where does Jesus stand in your life at this very moment? Is He in the center, or is He just a side note?

Because so much is riding on that answer!
