Do You Believe It?

When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” – John 19:30

Oh, what a wonderful word this is! Just one word in the original Greek – Tetelestai – yet within it lies the entire gospel. The work is done, the price paid, salvation secured. Jesus, having endured the full weight of God’s judgment against sin, now declares in victory, “It is finished!”

Christian, hold on to these words and let them bring peace to your soul. Your sin – finished! Your condemnation – finished! The demands of the law, the curse of sin, and the power of the devil – all finished! The enemy no longer rules over you, and your sins no longer condemn you. The blood of Jesus has spoken on your behalf, silencing every charge against you, because your debt has been paid in full.

And yet, loved ones, this is just the beginning of our joy. If Christ’s work is finished, then what else is left for us to do but to rest in it? No striving to add to His perfect sacrifice, no desperate attempts to earn His favor – just the simple, peaceful trust in His completed work. The battle is won, the victory secured, and all who trust in Jesus can rejoice in these final words: “It is finished!”

O, dear sinner, will you believe it? He did the work. All that remains is for you to accept His free gift of salvation. No sin is too great, no past too dark. Jesus has declared the work finished, and He is able to save you completely.

Rejoice, believer! For death could not hold Him, because His work was truly finished. He rose from the grave to prove it, and now He reigns forever, interceding for those He purchased with His blood.

Rest in this truth, weary soul. Jesus has finished the work! What do you have to fear?
