God Won’t Share His Throne

Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you; for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land.” – Deut. 6:14-15

God isn’t casual about your loyalty. He’s not okay with you splitting your devotion between Him and the idols of this world. He is a jealous God, and He means it.

Look around. People bow to money, fame, comfort, power, and approval like slaves to a false king. And if we’re not careful, we will start chasing the same worthless things, trusting in them, obsessing over them, as if they can save us. But they can’t. They will betray us.

God warns us plainly: if you follow the gods of this world, you will face the consequences. This isn’t a lighthearted suggestion – it’s a flashing red warning sign. He is not a God who takes second place. He loves you too much to let you waste your soul on things that will never satisfy.

So ask yourself, “Who really owns my heart?” Because God won’t compete for it.

Reflection:

  • What worldly gods have subtly taken priority in my life?
  • How does knowing that God is jealous for me change the way I see Him?
  • What needs to change in my life so that God is truly first?
