Mr. Edwards, an elderly Sunday School teacher, sat in his usual chair with his Bible open on his lap. The children gathered around him, listening intently as he told stories about Jesus – His miracles, His kindness, and His love for sinners.
As he spoke, a boy named Charlie hesitantly raised his hand. “Mr. Edwards, he asked, his voice small but sincere, “do you believe the Bible is really from God?”
Mr. Edwards smiled, his eyes twinkling. He loved it when the children asked questions, because it meant they were listening. “Oh, Charlie,” he said, “I don’t just believe it – I know it! God’s Word is a light that has never gone out! Jesus is the Light of the world!”
“We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” – 2 Peter 1:19-21
Peter reminds us that the Bible isn’t just a collection of human ideas – it is God’s Word, given to us through His Spirit. The prophets and apostles didn’t make up their messages; they were led by the Holy Spirit to speak what God wanted us to hear. That means we can trust every word of Scripture as true, reliable, and life-giving.
In a world that’s full of uncertainty, the Bible is our steady light, just as Mr. Edwards explained to Charlie, and just as Peter describes; a lamp shining in a very dark place. It points us to Jesus, the Morning Star, who will one day return and make all things new. Until then, we hold tightly to God’s Word, letting it guide us through every challenge, every doubt, every question.
How about you? Do you trust the Bible as God’s truth? Are you letting its light guide your daily walk? Today, ask God to deepen your faith in His Word and help you see His truth more clearly.
Today’s Prayer: Father, thank You for giving us Your Word as a light in the darkness. Help me to trust it, to study it, and to follow it with all my heart. Let it shape my heart and lead me closer to Jesus. Amen.
