Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.
– Philippians 2:5 (NKJV)
There are days when my thoughts get the better of me – when pride, impatience, or self-interest creeps in before I even realize it. Then I read this verse and it stops me in my tracks. Am I really thinking like Jesus?
Jesus didn’t put Himself first. He humbled Himself, served others, and obeyed the Father completely. In John 13, He washed His disciples feet – something only a servant would do. In Matthew 26:39, He prayed in the garden, surrendering His will to the Father: “Not as I will, but as You will.” And in Luke 23:34, as He hung on the cross, He said, “Father, forgive them.” Even in His suffering, He showed mercy.
That’s the mindset I want – not one driven by pride or selfishness, but by humility, obedience, and love. Having the mind of Christ means choosing to serve rather than be served, surrendering my plans to God, and forgiving even when it’s really hard. It’s not easy! But with the Holy Spirit’s help, it’s possible.
Help me to love with open arms, like You do
A love that erases all the lines, and sees the truth
Oh that when they look in my eyes, they would see You
Even in just a smile; they would feel the Father’s love …
