You’re Gonna Need a Bigger Jar

Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” They came out of the town and made their way toward him. – John 4:28-30

I can relate to the Samaritan woman in many ways. She wasn’t someone others looked up to. She had a past and most everybody knew of her. And I imagine she carried a lot of shame with her everywhere she went. Yet, when she met Jesus, everything changed. He saw her – not for what she’d done, but for who she was: someone worth loving, forgiving, and redeeming.

I felt that same moment of grace back on October 5, 2018. What a day it was! The day that Jesus saved a wretch like me! Everything changed.

When Jesus steps into your life, you can’t possibly keep it to yourself. That’s what happened to this Samaritan woman. She didn’t have a polished story or all the answers; she just ran back to town and said, “Come and see!” That’s it. And people listened – not because she suddenly had it all together, but because they could see something was different about her.

I’m reminded that God doesn’t wait for us to “get our acts together” before He uses us. He meets us in our mess and He turns it into a message! When I think about how far He’s brought me, it gives me the courage to share all that He’s done for me – even if I’m nervous or don’t have all the right words.

Maybe there’s someone in your life right now who needs to hear what God has done for you. Don’t overthink it. Just tell them, “Come and see.” Let your story, your transformation, be the thing that points that person to Him.

Today’s Prayer: Jesus, thank you for seeing me when I felt unworthy and for changing my life. Help me to share Your love boldly, even when it feels messy. Use my story to bring others closer to You. Amen.
