How Big is Your God?

My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare. Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish. – Psalms 25:15-17

This sweet, comforting psalm came from a season of agony for David, his words reflecting the cry of a heart fully reliant on God. He begins with declaring his resolve to keep his eyes fixed on the Lord, knowing that only God can deliver him from the traps of life. Yet, his declaration of faith doesn’t mean he is without struggles; David’s words quickly shift to a heartfelt plea for grace, comfort and deliverance from his pain.

Instead of being consumed by fear or frustration, David chose to trust in the One who holds all things together. Instead of focusing on his problems, David turned his eyes to the Lord.

Despite knowing that God is in control, we still experience seasons of loneliness, heartbreak and trials. And sometimes they seem to come one right after another. I remember going through a season like this back in 2020. Life just suddenly got really hard and I wondered if the bad news would ever end. All I could do that entire year was beg for God’s help, because these problems were much bigger than me and I had absolutely no control over them. But God never left me. Not only did He provide comfort to me through His holy Word, He surrounded me with people who encouraged me to keep going and prayed for me. He knew exactly what I needed! And if life gets challenging tomorrow, I can look back on that year of hardship and know that I can trust Him to do it again. God is always faithful.

And our prayers to Him don’t need to be fancy and wordy, just genuine and heartfelt. Some days my prayer was simply this: “Lord, I don’t know what to do. I don’t even know where to begin. But I know that You know everything about my situation, and I know that You will work this out for Your good. Just help me remain faithful to You.”

All I can do is share my testimony about how faithful the Lord has been to me. But I truly believe that the same God who turned to David in his time of need will turn to us if we simply ask Him.
