One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision and told him, “Don’t be afraid! Speak out! Don’t be silent! For I am with you, and no one will attack and harm you, for many people in this city belong to me.” So Paul stayed there for the next year and a half, teaching the word of God. – Acts 18:9-11 (NLT)
Paul’s ministry in Corinth wasn’t easy. The city was filled with sin, idolatry, and opposition. Paul could have given in to fear or discouragement and walked away. But in the middle of his struggles, God spoke clearly: “Don’t be afraid. I am with you! Keep going.”
Notice that God didn’t promise Paul an absence of opposition. The enemies would still be there, but they wouldn’t have the final say. The Lord assured Paul of His presence and His purpose – “many people in this city belong to me.”
Sometimes when we share Jesus with others, the response is cold or even hostile. It’s tempting to pull back, stay silent, and think, “What’s the point?” But this passage reminds us that God is always working. He sees the bigger picture. Even when people reject or resist the message, God knows whose hearts will be changed.
God’s words to Paul are His words to us today: “Do not be afraid. Speak out. I am with you.” His presence gives us courage, and His purpose keeps us moving forward. Like Paul, we can trust that when we obey God, our efforts aren’t wasted.
Thought for the day: Where do I need to trust God and “speak out” in faith today?
