For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. – Colossians 3:3-4
When people describe someone, we often hear phrases like, “Sports is his life,” or “Music is her life.” We naturally connect people with the things they’re most passionate about. Our interests and activities add color and give shape to our days while providing a sense of purpose. They bring joy and challenge, helping us grow in different ways. But no matter how meaningful these things may be, they were never meant to define who we are.
The Bible reminds us that, as Christians, our true identity is in Christ. In Colossians 3:3-4, Paul says we’ve died to our old selves, and now our life is “hidden with Christ in God.” Christ is our life. It’s not just something we say – He is the very center of who we are.
So, what would others say about us? Can they see that Christ is our life, or do they know us more for our hobbies, work, or interests? It’s easy to let good things become the most important things, but nothing should ever compete with Jesus as the defining factor in our lives.
The truth is, our connection to Christ is far deeper than any passion or pursuit we could ever have. When we live with Him at the center, everything else falls into its proper place. And one day, when Christ returns, we’ll share in His glory, fully reflecting the life He’s given us. Our true identity, hidden with Him, will be revealed.
Take a moment today to reflect: Are you living in a way that declares Christ is your life? Or do other things, maybe even good things, take center stage?
