Are You Too Busy?

“Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10

The enemy doesn’t always tempt to distract us with blatant sin. Sometimes, he distracts us with an overpacked life.

I was reminded of this not long ago when, on a Sunday evening, I sat down at my desk to look at my calendar for the upcoming week. I let out a heavy sigh… every single day was crammed with things to do, places to go and people to see. Many of those to-do’s were part of the ministries that I’m involved with and support. Wonderful things, they are. Important things! But are they more important than finding the space to rest and spend some meaningful time with the Lord? The Psalmist tells me No!

“Be still and know that I am God.” In other words, “Stop everything. Leave your business alone for a little bit – it’ll be okay. Just come to me. Sit and relax. Let’s talk, me and you. Let’s catch up on things. Allow me to encourage you while you take a break. Give me an opportunity to remind you how much you matter to me, how much I love you. I love spending time with you!

Do we love spending time with Him?

Holocaust survivor Corrie ten Boom once said, “If the devil can’t make you bad, he will make you busy.”

I have found this to be one of the greatest truths in my life over the past few years. It reminds me that even good things can become a hindrance if they pull me away from God. When I’m constantly on the go, I lose the ability to be still, to reflect, and to hear God’s voice. I’m forfeiting those quiet moments of refreshment that help me find clarity, guidance, and strength.

How about you? Do you struggle with finding time to be with God too? Let us pray for the Lord’s help. If we ask Him, He will help us.

Today’s prayer: Lord, help us to prioritize time with you amidst the busyness of life. Teach us to be still and know you more deeply. Help us to not allow our jobs, our kids’ activities, or even the work we do to honor you, to distract us from investing precious time with you. Amen.
