Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” – John 21:22
In this passage, Peter is concerned about the future of another disciple, namely John. But Jesus responds with a simple, yet profound directive: “What is that to you? You must follow me.”
How often do we, like Peter, become distracted and preoccupied with the lives of others? We compare our circumstances, our callings, and even our struggles with those around us. But Jesus calls us to keep our eyes on him and to trust his unique plan for each of us.
Jesus’ response informs us that each of us are on our own journey with him, and it encourages us to not get sidetracked by what others are doing or what is happening in their lives. You must follow me, Jesus says. God’s call to us and His plan for us is personal. Our focus should never drift to what He may or may not be calling others to do, but to simply follow Him.
Points Worth Reflection
Stop Comparing. Take a moment to reflect on areas of your life where you might be comparing yourself to others. Let go of those comparisons and ask God to help you focus on your own path.
Trust His Plan. Remember that God’s plan for you is unique. Trust that He knows what is best for you, even if it looks different from what others are experiencing.
Follow Him. Renew your commitment to following Jesus, regardless of where He leads you. His path for you is tailor-made, and He will give you what you need to walk it.
In all things, trust God to lead your steps and to light your path. Amen.
