Keeping the Cross on Our Minds

“For he gave himself for us, that he might set us free from all our evil ways, and make for himself a people of his own, clean and pure, with our hearts set upon living a life that is good.” – Titus 2:14 (J.B. Phillips NT Bible)

Satan is a master deceiver. When he tempts us, he’s always encouraging. “Go ahead, nobody’s watching. Nobody will ever know. Besides, everyone else is doing it. You deserve this. Nothing bad will happen. A little fun never hurt anyone.”

But once the deed is done, he goes on the attack. “How could you! You should be ashamed of yourself! You’re weak and pathetic! You’re worthless!”

Friend, the absolute best way to avoid Satan’s tactics is to remember what our sin cost God’s One and only Son. When we accept Jesus into our hearts, we’re not only accepting Him as our Savior. We’re also accepting Him as the Lord of our lives. He suffered and died so that we may be reconciled to the Father, through God’s grace and the forgiveness of our sins. We’ve been made clean, pure, and blameless. The moment Jesus gave up his life on the cross, God claimed us as his very own, and nothing can separate us from Him ever again.

In gratitude for all that Jesus has accomplished for us, we set our hearts upon living a good and God-honoring life. Our past lives spent pursuing ungodliness and worldly passions are now behind us. As we grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, what we see and what we seek begin to change.

So let us take a moment today to think about the price that was paid not only to set us free, but to make us a part of God’s family. With our eyes fixed on the cross of Calvary, Satan is powerless over us.
