The Income of Dependence Produces the Outcome of Trust

The Lord gave David victory wherever he went. – 1st Chronicles 18:13

David’s life was marked by an unwavering trust in God; a trust not born in the palaces or battlefields, but in the quiet pastures as a young shepherd tending his father’s sheep. It was there, in his early encounters with God, that David learned to lean not on his own understanding, but on the wisdom and strength of the Lord.

As king, he would face numerous challenges, from political upheaval to personal failings. Yet the underpinning of his reign over Israel, which is encapsulated in 1 Chronicles 18, was his steadfast trust in God.

“The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.” This simple, yet profound statement isn’t just about David’s political and military conquests; it’s a testament to the Spiritual victory that results from a life surrendered to the Lord.

The Income of Dependence

All of us face various battles in our lives… some are external – against circumstances and adversaries. Others are internal – wrestling with doubts, fears, and temptations. Do we, like David, acknowledge our limitations and surrender our illusion of control? Do we recognize that our strength, wisdom, and abilities are made perfect in God’s power? When we face challenges, be they from outside or within, is our first response to seek God’s guidance and submit to His will, like David did? Or do we continue living in the illusion that our way is better?

The Outcome of Trust

David’s trust brought him peace. Knowing that God was in control allowed him to remain calm and focused on the important things. David’s trust also brought him clarity. He was able to see whatever battle he was facing from God’s perspective, which revealed solutions that otherwise he never would’ve considered. And of all this brought David victory. Sometimes the victory might not have always looked like he expected, but it aligned him with God’s will, which is the ultimate victory.

If the Lord gave you victory wherever you went, what might that look like for you?
