When I start thinking I’m a good person…

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Matthew 26:39

“Just because I’ve done some bad things doesn’t mean I’m a bad person. It just means I’m human.” Yeah. Well, have you watched the news recently? Those aren’t horses that are running around and shooting people. The retail stores on the west coast aren’t closing because mobs of stray dogs and cats are stealing items off the shelves and running away. Corruption, slander, racism, pollution, war… humans are the only creatures responsible for all this evil.

Let’s face it – the world is just as sinful and broken today as it was 2000 years ago.

Three times. Jesus implored His Heavenly Father on three different occasions, “Father, if there is any other way, please take this cup from me.”

The God of compassion, the God of mercy and love… He had given up all hope on humanity. And it all came down to this moment, the sacrificing of His One and only Son on the altar would be the only cure.

Think about that. Jesus, anguishing in the Garden. “If there is any other way.”

When I start thinking that I’m a good person, all I have to do is look back on that day when Jesus was left with no other option but to die for me. Suddenly, I don’t feel so good.
