Integrity Gives Birth to Security

So Pharaoh asked them, ‘Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the Spirit of God?’” – Genesis 41:38

Joseph was given the task of overseeing Pharaoh’s administration of Egypt. It is a position of much responsibility, and also one that places Joseph in a position of tremendous influence. Joseph’s appointment to this position was a testament to the strength of his character, as well as the sign of God’s favor.

But Joseph had a difficult journey to the position he was given. He’d been thrown into a pit by his jealous brothers and sold into slavery. He’d been wrongfully imprisoned after refusing Potiphar’s wife’s advances. But despite these difficult times, Joseph regularly heeded the call of God and trusted Him. His faith and fortitude shined through every moment, and so Pharaoh scheduled an audience to meet with him.

In the meeting with Pharaoh, Joseph showed the same strength of character he had displayed throughout his life. Pharaoh saw the wisdom and insight that Joseph had to offer, and made him second in command of Egypt. It was a position of immense power, but Joseph did not use the new role for selfish intentions. Instead, he used the opportunity to serve God and help the people of Egypt.

When God saw how Joseph conducted himself in this position, He rewarded him with even more influence in the country. It was his trust in God that brought him from slavery into a position of greatness. The moment in which Pharaoh named Joseph his second in command is one that reminds us of how God rewards us for our dedication and faithfulness.
