The Power of God’s Light

“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” ~ 2 Corinthians 9:11

As summer is now asleep for the season, the nights are becoming crisp and cool again. In a few weeks time, the leaves of native trees on nearby mountains will begin celebrating the presence of God with breathtaking beauty and awe. This is their way of expressing thanks to the One who provides them nourishment, health, and sunlight, and because of their natural act of reverence for the Lord, their blessings will extend to every eye that takes a moment to reflect on the essence of God’s wonder, mercy, and grace.

As a sober Christ follower today, I have a daily conviction to recall the life that He rescued me from. As I think about where I was, who I was, and compare that with where and who I am today, how can I not sing His praises with the same reverence and gratitude as that of His creation? Has the light that God shines down upon me not created a similar photosynthetic change within me that emits such kindness, warmth, and beauty as that of the autumn trees?

Do those around me bask in the light of love and gratitude that I have for Christ and all that he has done for me? Or do they see a lifeless, leafless tree that is withering with decline and decay?

Today’s prayer: God, thank you for everything you do for me and my family. May I be courageous and eager to share the light you have given me to others, so that they too can better see your grace, beauty, love, and kindness. Amen.
